The Township of Minden Hills, County of Haliburton and local member municipalities are monitoring updates on active forest fires in the areas around Haliburton County.
(Information available as of 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 10th)
These fires are identified by the prefixes Haliburton and HAL representing the Ministry of Natural Resource's Haliburton Fire Management Area, but are located in Kawartha Lakes and Hastings County. There are currently no active forest fires identified by the MNRF in Haliburton County.

The Township of Minden Hills is in contact with the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ontario Provincial Police and other partners, and will share information as it becomes available.
Within Haliburton County:
A total fire ban throughout the County of Haliburton has been in effect since noon on Tuesday, August 5th including the Township of Minden Hills. It also includes the townships of Algonquin Highlands, Dysart et al, and Highlands East. This means no outdoor burning any time of day or night.

In Ontario, a flashing green light means a volunteer firefighter is en route to an emergency in their personal vehicle. When you see a flashing green light on a vehicle, pull over and allow the vehicle to pass if safe to do so.
If heading south: As of midnight last night, County Road 49 has been reopened. Emergency crews are actively monitoring and responding to a forest fire at County Road 49 and County Road 121 near Burnt River in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Please approach the area with caution and drive carefully. Please avoid non-essential travel.

Environment Canada has issued an extended heat warning for the County of Haliburton from August 9th (Saturday) through to August 11th (Monday). Please be aware of symptoms of heat-related illnesses, and check in on neighbours and family, particularly those who may be at higher risk.

Extended Heat Warning Issued for the County of Haliburton, City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, and City & County of Peterborough
(AUGUST 8, 2025) – The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health (now legally merged) are informing that Environment Canada is forecasting hot, humid weather over the next several days. An extended heat warning is being issued for the region starting tomorrow, August 9th, through to Tuesday, August 12th. The County of Haliburton is forecasted to cool down a day earlier, ending the warning in that region on Monday. Daytime highs are forecasted to reach up to 31°C, with a humidex up to 39. Overnight lows are expected to remain around 20-23°C, providing little relief from the heat.
The Health Unit is taking protective action by alerting the public of extreme heat events to prevent and reduce heat-related illnesses and direct community response and outreach to at-risk and priority populations. Based on criteria from Environment Canada, the Health Unit will issue the following alerts:

As of January 1, 2025, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health merged to form the Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough Public Health (legal name only). Efforts are currently underway to develop an operational name and a brand identity. In the meantime, you will see logos and other marketing material from both legacy organizations. You may also see references and documents using the legal name Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough Public Health. Partners and members of the public should continue to engage with their local public health offices as usual until otherwise directed.

Total Fire Ban in Haliburton County Effective at noon on Tuesday, Aug 5, 2025, there will be a total fire ban throughout the County of Haliburton, including the townships of Algonquin Highlands, Minden Hills, Highlands East and Dysart et al. This means no outdoor burning any time of day or night. Bonfires, fireworks, torches and the lighting of charcoal barbecues, as well as any other light sources that use an open flame, are prohibited. Cooking fires are also prohibited. Violating the ban will result in fines. Propane and gas barbecues may continue to be used. The ban is being implemented through a joint decision of the County’s four Chief Fire Officials due to ongoing hot and dry weather and is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
