“Battle of the Bands” is a monthly segment heard on the Big Band Show on Canoe FM.
The old-time radio “broadcasts” grew out of host Andy Sparling’s crazy passion for the big bands and the one-on-one “cutting contests” back in the day, when swing dancers declared the “winner.”
But it wasn’t enough. Nooo. Andy felt compelled to make fantasy VIDEOS out of the fantasy radio broadcasts. These videos are what those band battles MAY have looked like, according to his feverish imagination, with assistance from old photos, posters, newspaper and magazine ads, and yes, EVEN AI.
If you’re looking for accurate history, forget it. Just something kinda cool to look at, and maybe kickstart some happy feelings and memories. And of course - the kick-ass sound of the big swing bands!
