Share Your Music with 100.9 & 97.1 Canoe FM!

100.9 & 97.1 Canoe FM broadcast a wide variety of music.  We are pleased and proud to support local and Canadian musicians. If you listen to our station or are perusing our schedule you will notice that we play Rock, Country, New Country, Jazz, Funk, Folk, Blues, Gospel, Bluegrass, Pop, Alternative Rock, and so much more.

As a not-for-profit, volunteer-based community radio station we receive many musical submissions from artists and from music distribution centres such as Yangaroo and Earshot Distro.

All musical submissions go to our Music Committee, who will listen to the songs and determine if they are a fit for the station, which genre they fall into and if they qualify for daytime radio play.

Approved local music will go into daytime rotation and/or into our Local Talent Hour program which airs on Tuesdays from 1-2pm.

Sometime music submitted doesn’t fit for daytime rotation, however it is suitable for evening and weekend genre specific programs.  This music will be forwarded to the appropriate host.

Music should be submitted in the following ways:

• Send us your songs via the Music Submission Application Form below.
• We encourage artists not to send a full album of music if you are hoping for your music to be played in our daytime rotation. Please just send 1-3 tracks that are your favourites and most suitable for airplay on Canoe FM.
• Please note that we cannot accept cover songs unless you have permission/license from the original artist.
• In today's digital world, we encourage artists not to send physical CDs to the station.  It is much more efficient for our Music Committee and our Hosts to deal with digital files.
• Accepted file types include MP3, WAV, or ZIP, with a maximum file size of 64 MB.

Using Cover Songs:  Know Your Responsibilities

Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) is the correct and authoritative place for Canadian artists to learn how to get permission to record and release a cover song. CMRRA handles mechanical (reproduction) licensing, which is the exact license you need to legally record and distribute a cover.

CMRRA clearly states that you should apply for a licence if you covered a song and want to release it.

Music Submission Application Form

We use the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's (CRTC) MAPL system to determine whether a song qualifies as Canadian content.  For more information on PAPL visit the CRTC's website www.crtc.gc.ca.
