More Snow Expected in the Huntsville Area
-UPDATE #2-
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ON THE WAY FOR HUNTSVILLE AND LAKE OF BAYS
OPP Warning To Avoid Non-Essential Travel
(HUNTSVILLE, ON) - Huntsville is reporting light to moderate snow fall continuing with approximately 2-3 inches of snow since the early part of today. Accumulation is not exceeding snow removal efforts. Hwy 11 is moving at normal speeds and no MVC's have been reported in the area at this time.
The OPP want to remind motorists that despite the current snow clearing efforts, the weather and road conditions are continuing to deteriorate. As the evening and overnight approach, road conditions are likely to change with falling temperatures.
In the Bracebridge Detachment area, Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road, Beiers Road, and the northbound ramp at Luigi Road remain closed.
There are no road closures in the Huntsville Detachment area at this time, but please be alert as road conditions can change quickly. Plan your trip before leaving by visiting the MTO website for road conditions and closures at 511on.ca.
The OPP is urging the public to avoid non-essential travel during this time. Additional vehicles on the roads put occupants at risk and add additional challenges for snow removal.
If you are travelling, all your attention should be on your driving and the surrounding conditions. Avoid making any sudden braking or accelerating maneuvers as it could cause a loss of control of your vehicle.
If you are in a life-threatening situation, call 9-1-1. Please call the OPP non-emergency number, 1-888-310-1122 for all other matters.

Hwy 11 Updates from the OPP
DATE: December 3, 2024
OPP AND EMERGENCY CREWS CONTINUE WINTER STORM EFFORTS
Closed Secondary Roads Off Highway 11
(ORILLIA, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews are working diligently to clear snow on closed secondary roads off Highway 11 and provide essential support to the community who continue to be impacted by the impacts of this weekend's storm
There are currently six tractor trailers that remain stuck on secondary roads, which is causing a delay in snow removal and hydro restoration efforts. Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road and Beiers Road are closed. The northbound ramp at Luigi Road also remains closed at this time.
Although Highway 11 has re-opened, the OPP reminds the public to slow down, stay alert and stay in control. Plan your trip before leaving by visiting the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) website for road conditions and closures at 511on.ca.
Emergency services are actively working with local residents to provide food, water and supplies. Individuals in need are being transported to local warming centres. Efforts are underway to delivery fuel to gas stations affected by the snow event.
The OPP reminds motorists to ensure they are prepared for any situation by driving appropriately for the road and weather conditions. Remember to have an emergency kit in your vehicle, ensure sufficient fuel/battery level with reserve, and plan ahead by monitoring local media reports for road conditions and weather updates.
Motorists who find themselves stranded on roads are encouraged to remain calm, stay in their vehicle and consider pooling vehicle resources until the OPP and other rescuers are able to reach their location.
Members of OPP continue to work collaboratively with the MTO, road maintenance contractors and operators of snow removal equipment as they monitor and prepare for potential future weather events throughout the province.
If you are in a life-threatening situation, call 9-1-1. Please call the OPP non-emergency number, 1-888-310-1122 for all other matters.
