Point in Time Secures Land for New Youth & Family Hub in Haliburton County
Haliburton, ON – Point in Time Centre for Children, Youth and Parents is proud to announce the purchase of 5219 County Road 21, Haliburton, for the future Youth & Family Hub—a transformative project that will expand access to vital services for children, youth, young adults, and families across Haliburton County.
“This is a once-in-a-generation investment in our community,” said Marg Cox, Executive Director of Point in Time. “By securing this key location—less than one kilometre from the high school and centrally located—we have taken the first step toward creating a single facility where children, youth, and families can access the care, connection, and opportunities they need to thrive.”
The purpose-built Hub will bring together a wide range of supports under one roof, including:
- Early childhood programs
- Recreation and wellness opportunities
- Parenting supports
- Employment services
- Skills and well-being activities
- Mental health/substance use help and primary care
Why It Matters
- 70% of mental health challenges begin before age 18 (Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC)).
- 1 in 5 children under 12 in Ontario experience a diagnosable mental health disorder, but fewer than one-third receive specialized care.
- 60% of youth say they would use a hub—rising to 75% among those with a diagnosed mental health issue (MHCC, Bell Let’s Talk Survey).
- The current Youth Hub is at capacity: visits have more than doubled in the last five years.
- 40% of parents report they would not tell anyone, including their family doctor, if their child was experiencing a mental health problem (MHCC).
Youth Hubs break down barriers by offering walk-in services in a safe, welcoming space. The new Youth & Family Hub will provide children and families with easier access to support, building resilience and brighter futures in a location that is easily accessible for all. “The location was extremely important,” said Cox. “We need to meet children, youth, and families where they are, and co-create programs, services and supports with youth. Haliburton County youth input is vital.”
Next Steps
With land now secured, Point in Time will move forward with planning, design, community consultations, and community-wide fundraising to support construction of this exciting new facility.
“Now it is time to roll up our sleeves and get to work,” added Cox.
