WHEREAS 100.9 & 97.1 Canoe FM operates as a vital, volunteer-driven, and not-for-profit community radio station serving the residents and seasonal visitors of the Haliburton Highlands; and
WHEREAS the station acts as an invaluable public service by broadcasting local news, promoting community events, and supporting the cultural, social and economic vitality of Haliburton County by sharing radio bingo proceeds and raising awareness; and
WHEREAS the annual Canoe FM Radiothon serves as a cornerstone fundraising event that allows the community to come together to support and sustain independent local broadcasting; and

WHEREAS 100.9 & 97.1 Canoe FM operates as a vital, volunteer-driven, and not-for-profit community radio station serving the residents and seasonal visitors of the Haliburton Highlands; and WHEREAS Canoe FM relies on more than 120 dedicated local volunteers who give their time, voices, and energy to connect families with the community, entertain, promote local businesses and services, celebrate local musical talent, and share essential stories across our region; and WHEREAS the station acts as an invaluable public service by broadcasting local news, promoting community events, and supporting the cultural, social and economic vitality of Haliburton County by sharing radio bingo proceeds and raising awareness; and WHEREAS the annual Canoe FM Radiothon serves as a cornerstone fundraising event that allows the community to come together to support and sustain independent local broadcasting; and WHEREAS municipal leadership recognizes the profound impact that community-oriented media has on fostering civic pride and keeping our citizens informed and connected; NOW THEREFORE, I, Dave Burton, Warden of the County of Haliburton, do hereby proclaim July 4, 2026, as "Canoe FM Day" in Haliburton County, and encourage all residents to celebrate the voices of our neighbours, recognize the invaluable efforts of its volunteers, and support our community radio station. |
