Release # 26-24
Subject: Flood Watch Update and Sandbag Availability
The Township of Minden Hills Emergency Management Team is working with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Parks Canada regarding weather conditions and the potential for flooding. Continuous monitoring and regular meetings are scheduled with the MNR and Parks Canada during the Spring Freshet.
The Township will have filled sandbags available at the Minden Curling Club (50 Prentice St., Minden) parking lot. If needed, residents and businesses will be able to pick up sandbags starting on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.
The Township continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates to the community. Weather conditions in the Township of Minden Hills for next 10 days indicate warmer temperatures and continued precipitation which can increase area water levels.
It is important to use caution near all bodies of water with area stream banks being slippery with fast flowing, cold water and creating hazardous conditions. Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, regularly check for updated messages, exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
