It is with incredible sadness that we share that Lorraine McNeil passed peacefully yesterday afternoon. Her beloved husband Lorne and sister Denise were at her side.
We are all heartbroken.
Lorraine was the real deal. She was genuine; a genuine friend to those she cared about, a genuinely loving and caring person and genuinely compassionate for people with stories and needs. Lorraine loved her home and great friends at the lake, she loved meeting people and being in the community and she loved being a co-host on our radio shows. I knew Lorraine was a natural comic and I thought that it was worth a try to have her join me on air. Oh joy. Lorraine and I truly clicked. She was funny, quick witted and her laugh echoed through the county. Most important of all, we cared for and trusted each other. We knew that we were there to help each other and to produce entertaining radio … you can only accomplish that, successfully, if there is genuine trust and caring between you. There will be a great void for me and I will miss her companionship on the air. As the folks at CanoeFM will tell you, when we were together there was a joyous laughter on and off the air while were in the studio. Lorraine just had a way of lifting your spirits and making you glad to be in that moment.
We became such very good friends and, happily, Lorraine and Lorne were like extended family. Our kids and grandkids loved them. We had many happy times together, filled with great stories and much laughter.
As many know, she was active in a number of community undertakings and was such an important part of the annual fundraiser, the Highlands Christmas Shindig. Lorraine was a wonderful Elf. Cheeky at times and always funny, Lorraine delighted in being part of such an entertaining evening as well as the fundraising for Fuel for Warmth. It was at Lorraine’s urging that we undertook to produce this annual event.
I could go on and on in tribute to this wonderful lady. Those that knew her, or even met her, know what I mean. We will all miss her so very deeply. Yes. We are heartbroken.
