Dan Manley may be a computer geek by day, but he's a classical music nut by night.
Dan is a tuba player
and a member of multiple ensembles, including Haliburton's own Highlands Wind Symphony. He's also the tubist for
Orchestra Toronto, a large community orchestra based out of North York. Before moving to the Haliburton area,
Dan founded and conducted The Brass Conspiracy in Toronto, a 15-piece brass choir consisting of trumpets, horns,
trombones, euphonium, tuba and percussion.
Interested in promoting music locally, Dan took over the classical music program on Canoe FM and
created The Concert Hall showcasing a diverse selection of classical favourites and hidden gems.
Dan's musical background includes a stint at the University of Ottawa for music, private lessons, theory classes,
and membership in many ensembles over the years, including the Ottawa Youth Orchestra, the University of Ottawa Wind Ensemble,
Festival Wind Orchestra in Toronto, Counterpoint Community Orchestra in Toronto and the Brassfully Yours quintet.
His knowledge of classical music, as is his collection, is ever growing. It's surprizing how fun it can be to come
accross a CD of an obscure composer.
